U16 HC Co Semi Final V Clyda Rovers – 25/8

Shamrocks 1-7, Clyda Rovers 1-7

The club’s first county hurling semi final in a good while ended in stalemate after both sides played their hearts out in very telling conditions in Carraig na bhFear on Monday night. We started well and were matching a more physical Clyda team in the early battles. Scores were hard to come by for both teams. At the half time whistle we were trailing on a score line of 0-04 to 0-02.

We regrouped and started to get more into the game in the second half. After three Andrew O Grady points the scores were tied at 0-05 a piece entering the final stages. Two pointed frees for Clyda was followed by a very fortunate goal for them. The final whistle was fast approaching and so it seemed was our county challenge. Another O Grady point was followed by a David Andrews one to leave just a goal between the two clubs. Our never say die attitude was to be rewarded when the brilliant Nathan Hayes found the back of the Clyda net to leave it all square and the clock well into injury time. Another two minutes was played but no winning score was got by either side. Extra time could not be played due to the fading light both sides will battle it out again next week to decide who goes on to contest the county final.
