U14 HL V Castlelyons – 14/8

Castlelyons  9-9, Shamrocks 5-12

Shamrocks turned in a great display in the U12 hurling league before succumbing to league leaders Castlelyons on Thursday night in Shanbally.

The story of this team this year was that they were struggling to field a team for every game and this was the same again on Thursday evening with four players missing again through holidays.

Castlelyons started brightly scoring three points without reply and looked like they were going to take over until Shane Downey goaled to level. The game was fairly even after this with Shamrocks hurling well and contesting every ball and were unlucky to go in losing by 3-6 to 1-7 at half time. Shamrocks were dominant for the first 15 mins of the second half when Seán Andrews took the game by the scruff of the neck scoring 3-3. With ten minutes left Shamrocks found themselves still trailing by a point after playing the better hurling but went further behind when Castlelyons scored a couple of goals. Final score Castlelyons 9-9, Shamrocks 5-12. A highly entertaining game on the night from both sides. From our own point of view a vast improvement from when we started out in February.

Team on duty – Conor Hourihan, Evan Seymour, Dylan O’Flaherty, Seán Browne, Seán Andrews, Mark Andrews, Cillian Hayes, Daniel O’ Mahony, Shane Downey, Harry Andrews, Sam Geary.
