Shamrocks 1-11, Ballygarvan 2-8
Shamrocks and Ballygarvan finished all square in the Semi Final of the JAFC in Minane Bridge on Saturday night after a pulsating hours football, plus 11 minutes in total of injury time.
Shamrocks had a point on the board inside 2 minutes but Ballygarvan hit a purple patch thereafter and scored 1-2 in quick succession to move ahead after 15 minutes. However, Shamrocks gradually came back into it, took over and scored a goal and a few points to leave the score 1-5 to 1-4 in favour of Shamrocks at HT.
Ballygarvan played with the slight breeze and hill advantage for the second half. Early exchanges were tight and both teams traded 4 points. With the game level with 15 minutes to go, Ballygarvan hit a purple patch and scored 1-1 in the space of 2 minutes to open daylight between the teams, Ballygarvan 2-7, Shamrocks 1-6. With 10 minutes to go, it was 2-8 to 1-7 but Shamrocks refused to give up and 4 unanswered points drew the teams level. Both teams had chances to win it in added on time but referee Brian Keniry called time on a great game at almsot 9pm on the splendid Tracton pitch.
The replay is fixed for Minane Bridge next Wednesday night, 7pm.
