U16 FL V Ballygarvan – 25/7

Shamrocks 3-13, Ballygarvan 2-4

Another 2 league points for the u16 footballers after this victory over Ballygarvan in the Friday evening sunshine in Shanbally.

The opening half was close and very well fought by 2 teams that appeared well matched. Matt Field opened the scoring inside 3 minutes when he ghosted in behind the Ballygarvan defence to slot home a nice goal. Ballygarvan came bqack into the game, punishing some sloppy Shamrocks play early on, and led 2-2 to 1-1 after 15 minutes. Slowly but surely Shamrocks got on top in the lead up to halftime and some nice points from David Andrews, Nathan Hayes, Mark Hitchmough and Andrew O’Grady and a well worked goal finished to the net by Adam O’Keeffe enables Shamrocks to go in at the short whistle leading by 2-5 to 2-3.

Shamrocks dominated the second half but again it took a while to push Ballygarvan out of the way. Sub Ruairí Meighan, Cillian Hayes, Field, O’Grady, Andrews and Cormac Scriven up from full back all got points to push them 2-11 to 2-4 ahead before Nathan Hayes billowed the net after drifting forward from half back to seal the convincing win in the end. Training continues next Tuesday.
