Club Ciarán 2014 – Day 4

We have had four wonderful days so far (5th one ongoing as we speak) and the feelgood factor is very high. Our young recently graduated coaches have been splendid and with the experienced John O’Herlihy N.T., Aidan O’Leary, David Nolan N.T and Declan O’Neill our Schools Coach throwing in all their experience and expertise, I would suggest that 2014 is by far our best week yet.

Parish Priest Rev. Sean O’Sullivan, no mean footballer himself having played with his native Bantry and later Ballincollig, paid us a visit on Thursday. He was wondering where the footballs were. He was very impressed and later he was watered and fed by the Catering Division.
The food has been top class with Clonakilty black pudding very endearing to the pallet.

We had children whose fore fathers have already made their mark in our Club. James Forde, grandson of the late Teddy Forde, Rebecca Collins, grand daughter of John Collins, Laura Sisk, great grand daughter of Paddy Sisk, Saoirse Aherne, grand daughter of Thomas Aherne, Ellie Hickey, great grand daughter of Leo Brady to mention a few.

We had a visit from new baby Jack O’Driscoll, a great grandson of the Jackie and Gertie O’Driscoll. Baby Liam O’Donoghue, new to this world as well, called in with his mum. We were so pleased to see Holly Lyons from Rochestown sporting the Club colours. Holly made her first visit to the Club when she was six months old in 2012.

Club Chairman Pat McCarthy is playing a blinder and he is charged with the distribution of hurleys and helmets each morning. John Jordan and Donal Turner have everything in place and laid each morning before the troops arrive and the indomitable Geraldine Twomey along with her sister-in-law Deirdre have maintained a wonderful kitchen. Geraldine who hit the big 50 last weekend, had some beautiful birthday cake on offer for the sweet toothed on Monday morning. It didn’t last long.

Sargent Jamie Sweeney paid a courtesy call too with siren blazing but there was no trouble, he just wanted a cup of Geraldine’s best coffee and he told many of the young hurlers what a fine exponent of the game he was himself. I’m not sure if they all believed him.

Hopefully more to follow….
