Shamrocks 1-3, Kinsale 8-10
Shamrocks proved no match for Kinsale on Thursday evening in the hurling league. Again, numbers are extremely tight with very little room for manuvre from the selectors and they have to go with what they have.
Unfortunately, the bare truth of the matter here is that this game was over after 15 minutes as Kinsale were piling forward and scoring goals at will and had 5 at that stage. The Shamrocks lads slowly grew into the game and indeed were a much better outfit in the second half.
The half time score was 7-7 to 0-1 in favour of Kinsale, Killian Hayes, who was Shamrocks best player on the night, with the score. Words of encouragment were offered at halftime and the lads responded in the second half and played much better hurling but they lacked that killer player or 2 to actually score. Shane Downey scored the goal and Seán Andrews had a point from play.
The Shamrocks players need to a lot more hurling to be able to compete at even C level. And that begins at home, its just not enough doing a few hours up at the pitch. Hurling is a game that needs to be constantly practiceed away from the pitch in the players own time. The next few games see us play against the East Cork teams, a tall order indeed.
They will have a puck around on Tuesday evening at 6pm (bring gumshields as well) with a away game to Lisgoold the following night, starting at 7pm. It is imperative that we field a full team against them so everyone must be available. Meet at Shanbally Church carpark at 5.30pm for the journey.
