A great night was had by all at the club’s fundraising event last Saturday night in the Shamrock Bar.
Professional darts player, Jamie “Jabba” Caven took on the local pride of the Shamrock Bar darts team on the night. Some of the club’s up and coming stars also turned their hands to the fine art of dart playing.
Up first was young u16 star David Andrews. He was followed by our fundraising expert Geraldine Twomey. Cork’s youth player Cian Forde from the Forde stable in Ringaskiddy then showed his talent. Jamie proved too strong for these lads but this was all to change when the boss Mark Hickey took to the oche. After a bit of bustling and banter it was Mark who took the honours much to the delight of the large attendance. Jamie regrouped and really upped the anti before and after the break. Blow in Mr Barley O’Donovan made a very impressive entrance to the walk on music of Barney is a Dinosaur but that was his moment of glory as he was put back in his box fairly lively by the excellent Jamie.
The next few players all were beaten but enjoyed themselves immensely. The last three players were the BIG Shamrock hitters. John Nyhan, Jason Kavanagh and John Twomey threw unbelievable darts to register three wins in a row to the delight of the crowd. Jamie didn’t know what hit him. In his speech afterwards he thanked all involved and wished us all the best for the future. The club would like to thank Mark Hickey and the staff of the Shamrock Bar along with all the players who brought in sponsor money, all the local businesses who donated spot prizes and especially the local community again for their very generous financial support again. The funds raised will go towards the upcoming first aid and defibrillator training on Saturday 10th May & Saturday 7th June in conjunction with the Irish Red Cross.
