St Catherines 6-5, Shamrocks 4-1
The visitors to Shanbally took the spoils after the first game of the year. Again, numbers are extremely tight at this age group, just like the 14’s; however, the Shamrocks players on duty today played their hearts out and can be proud of their display, in particular their second half display against a very good St Catherines team.
Catherines started the stronger and were 2 goals up inside the first 5 minutes. They chipped away at the scoreboard and were 3-4 to no score ahead 10 minutes before halftime. Then Shamrocks came right back into the game with a goal from Adam Maye and a point from Seán Andrews. The half time score was 4-5 to 1-1 in favour of the visitors.
Stand in mentor Pa Andrews asked the lads to win the second half and to never give up. The players responded and played some great football. Adam Maye went on to claim his hat trick of goals while Seán Andrews also slammed in one. It was great to see the never say die attitude of the players.
All they need now is to train and play together on a regular basis and we’ll see more improvement. The next u12 game is on Saturday April 5th, an away hurling game to Grenagh. Training continues on Tuesday evenings, 6pm. Hurling this week.
Panel on duty – Robert Van Pelt, Sam Kramer, Mark Sisk, Adam McSweeney, Derry Howard, Seán Andrews, Declan Carroll, Harry Andrews, Daniel O’Brien, Adam Maye, Conor Hourihan, Fionn Herlihy.
