Shamrocks 2-6, Canovee 0-7
Shamrocks made the long trip to Canovee count with a 5 point win over Canovee in Carraig a’ Droichid on Saturday afternoon last.
The weather turned to rain and hailstone just at throw in which made for very heavy and slippery conditions.
The first half was very close and Shamrocks began to dominate play but we failed to take our scoring chances and just before halftime we let Canovee back into the game to score two quick points to lead at the break on a score line of Canovee 0-04, Shamrocks 0-02.
The second half began with Shamrocks winning possession and taking the lead by scoring 1-01 from play; Canovee tried to come back but the lads dug deep and scored another 1-02 to lead at this stage by 2-05 to 0-05. Canovee were by now trying to score goals but our goalkeeper and backline were fantastic and they snuffed out all their attempts to limit them to getting only two points from play.
Then in the last minute we got another point to run out 5 point winner.
We had fourteen players on the day and the team was D. Raleigh, S. Kidney, D. Barry, M. Hitchmough, C. O’Grady, C. Scriven, D. Scriven, D. Andrews, A. O’Grady, T. Murphy, C. Hayes, A. Boland. Subs were B Crowley and N. Hayes
