JAHL V Kinsale – 2/3

Kinsale 0-12, Shamrocks 0-6

Shamrocks suffered a 6 point defeat to Kinsale in their first hurling game of the year.

The game was played in Kinsale’s new second pitch and the strong wind blew right down the pitch and favoured Shamrocks in the first half. Such was its strength, Shamrocks needed to be ahead by a good few points at halftime to face the second half onslaught. However, the greens found scores hard to come by and despite some nice scores from Fergus O’Neill, Stephen Keane, Seanán Collins and a beauty from Roy Twomey, it was Kinsale who led 0-5 to 0-4 at HT. A mountain to climb for Shamrocks.

The second half went the way of the home side, although they didnt have everything all their own way. The overworked Shamrocks defence put in a great shift and cleared plenty of ball and pressurised the Kinsale forwards into mistakes. However, the necessary bite up front wasnt there and after Cathal Kidney from play and a monster free from Michael O’Neill right into the teeth of the wind had brought Shamrocks back to within 2 points with 15 minutes left, Kinsale tagged on the insurance points to run out 6 point winners.

Next hurling match is at home to Valley Rovers next Sunday at 3pm, training for all players continues Monday and wednesday at 7.30pm.
