Lisgoold 5-10, Shamrocks 1-12
Having lost the toss, we had to travelled to play Lisgoold in the final of the Rebel Óg U16 C hurling league. Conditions were ideal for hurling and both teams soon found their rhythm and got some early points on the scoreboard. Our first four points came frees converted by the reliable Andrew O’ Grady. Darragh Scriven was finding space in the middle of the pitch and got our first score from play when he pointed after a great clearance from our defence.
We were now three points to the good but that was wiped out when Lisgoold scored two quick goals to leave us trailing by a goal with half time approaching. Another Andrew O’Grady point was followed by a Mark Hitchmough beauty. The half time whistle sounded to leave us trailing on a scoreline of 2-04 to 0-07.
Strong words of encouragement were spoken by the mentors and when the game restarted we soon were had our best period of the match. We scored five points from play, without reply from Andrew O Grady, Tom Murphy and three from the excellent David Andrews. Alas that was to be our second last score as Lisgoold took over totally. Lisgoold took over at this point and despite a Nathan Hayes goal, Lisgoold scored another two quick fire goals to put them in command. We were hampered further when Mark Hitchmough picked up an ankle injury and soon had a player dismissed for dangerous play. Lisgoold scored another 1-04 without reply to leave them worthy winners on a final scoreline of 5-10 to 0-12.
