Shamrocks 5-7, Grenagh 2-6
Shamrocks u12 footballers are through to the C grade league semi final against Whitescross after a second victory over Grenagh on Tuesday evening. With 3 teams finishing level in second place, this game along with the Semi final was played to determine who will play St Vincents in the final on September 14th.
Shamrocks made the journey to Grenagh again and funnily enough, the pattern of the game followed the pattern from the game back in May. The first half was low scoring with the halftime score being 0-2 each. Shamrocks had played up the hill and were reasonably happy at that stage. The backs had dealt well with the early Grenagh attacks; Cian O’Flaherty in goal made some vital interceptions while Evan Seymour dealt with any high ball pumped in.
The selectors of Jed O’Flaherty, Pa Andrews and Aidan O’Leary, mindful of the second half display back in May, decided to go for it in the second half. They moved Cian into the forwards and made some other adjustements, moving some prominent players forward. And it worked. Shamrocks started to get on top and through great play from Seán Andrews and Dylan O’Flaherty who did the majority of the scoring from centre forward, they opened up a 9 point gap, 4-2 to 0-5.
Grenagh responded by scoring 2 goals of their own with 10 minutes left but the Shamrocks lads reasserted themselves and Cian O’Flaherty and Jody Sisk, along with a few points from Dylan O’Flaherty sealed the deal for Shamrocks. It was a great team effort all through.
They play Whitescross in football this Saturday at 12pm in Shanbally. Football training this Thursday at 7.15pm.
