U14 FL V Whitescross – 9/5

Whitescross 3-11, Shamrocks 1-7

The Shamrocks u-14 travelled to Whitescross on Thursday 09-05-2013 on what was a very blustering evening.Having won the toss Shamrocks opted to play against the breeze in the first half. It certainly was a very tough half for the boys as they absorbed wave after wave of attacks from a very crafty Whitescross side. Despite the best efforts of Dylan O’ Flaherty, Ruairi Mehigan and captain James Lynam in the half- backline  Whitescross rattled up a score of 2-8 before halftime. There were only a few good attacks during the half and a couple of frees won by David O’ Sullivan weren’t converted by Joseph O’ Keefe due to the strong breeze.

However, the second half was a very different affair as Shamrocks came thundering in to the game with all players hitting form and giving great display of very creative football and there were some fine scores taken aided by the very strong wind. David O’ Sullivan showed his true class scoring 1-2 in the first ten minutes of the half and was given great supply by Joseph O’ Keefe and Cillian Hayes. Two inspirational points from Ruairi Mehigan  brought out the best in all the defenders with goalie Shane Flavin bringing off a few great saves and ably assisted by corner backs Evan Seymour and Cathal Murphy.

With Shane Downey and David Johson working very hard winning valuable frees that were converted by Joseph O’ Keefe Shamrocks were now in real contention. However, time ran out for the lads and  the final score of Whitescross 3-11 to Shamroks 1-7 shows how really close they were to gaining their first victory this season. There is great credit due to the boys and if they persist success certainly is not far away.
