Dripsey 1-7, Shamrocks 1-6
Dripsey and Shamrocks played out a very exciting game in Shanbally on Wednesday evening and after a great hours ball, Dripsey snatched a late, late win by the odd point.
Fact is that Shamrocks should really have won this game as they led from the 1st minute until practically the last when Dripsey got 1-2 to edge themselves in front at the winning post.
Shamrocks led 1-3 to 0-1 at half time and looked set for the win as they turned to play down the hill in the second half. Dylan O’Flaherty was outstanding in that first half and he scored some great points, off both left and right. Seán Andrews, busy as always scored the goal direct from a free from out the field.
The mentors warned the lads at half time that Dripsey would come right back into it in the second half and that they did – but only at the death. Shamrocks were in control of teh game entering the last 10 minutes but Dripsey started to pick off the scores and they did just enough to win in the end.
The Shamrocks boys were obviously disappointed at the end after such a great effort. While they want to win, its important not to take our eyes off the bigger picture – player development. Sometimes a loss can teach a harsh but valuable lesson. Some of the decisions taken in the last 15 minutes cost them scores – small things like going for goals when an easy simple point would have done just as nicely at that stage. However, the selectors will be working on that in the next few weeks.
We wish Seán Browne a speedy recovery from his hand injury that necessated his subsitiution at half time (we had no subs to replace him as some players didnt turn up again).
IMPORTANT NOTICE – The Academy continues for these boys on Saturday and its important that we get a good turnout in Rochestown College next Wednesday for hurling training in the ball alleys at 6pm. The front gates of the school are normally locked at that stage; but the old entrance just down a bit towards Rochestown is available; we’ll assemble at the Church carpark outside the school and walk up. Remember to bring hurley, helmey, runners and tennis ball.
Panel – C. O’Flaherty, E. Seymour, S. Donegana, M. Sisk, S. Andrews, J. Sisk, D. O’Flaherty, H. Andrews, S. Browne, F. Herlihy, R. Van Pelt, A. McSweeney.
The mentors have made out an u12 schedule for the month of May and is available from Pa Andrews and is also on our calendar.
