MHL V Kinsale – 11/4

Kinsale 4-10, Shamrocks 4-7

Kinsale came away with the league points from Shanbally on Thursday evening. The fact is that Shamrocks should have won this game but a combination of 3 silly, soft, preventable goals conceded in the last 15 minutes on top of one or two glorious chances missed at the other end meant that Kinsale went off home with a 3 point win.

The teams were more or less evenly matched throughout the game and the 12 a side meant that there were plenty of open spaces. Mark Hitchmough doubled on a ball in the air to billow the Kinsale net in the first half, while Luke Garvan did very well also, scoring 3 points from play. Nathan Hayes scored a great goal just on half time to leave it 2-6 to 1-5 for Shamrocks at the break.

The second half was tight all the way; unfortunately, this young Shamrocks team, featuring 8 u16’s in the starting line up, switched off at the vital times and conceded those scores at the other end. They can only learn for the experience going forward and hopefully be able to close out matches. They have a 2 week break until they play their next hurling game, away to Ballygarvan. In the meantime, they have a football league game or two to catch up on; details to follow.
