JAFL V Carrigaline – 1/3

Shamrocks 2-10, Carrigaline 0-9

Shamrocks got their first win of the season under their belt with a deserved 7 point win over old rivals Carrigaline in “Friday night lights”.

The foundations of this victory lay in the 2 goals that Shamrocks scored through the boot of Stephen O’Reilly early on and a rocket of a shot from Darragh O’Sullivan mid way through the second half.

In fact that goal was the highlight of a largely confident second half display from the visitors who performed much better after a lethargic first 30 minutes. Eventhough they started very well and led 1-1 early doors, Carrigaline came back into the game and brought it back to a 2 point game at the break, 1-4 to 0-5. Indeed it could have been a Carrig lead but Fergus O’Neill made one brilliant stop in the Shamrocks goal just before halftime.

However, a much better Shamrocks second half resulted in some fine scores from sub Stephen O’Neill, Brian Sweeney, Michael Prout and Cannice Cafferey. Shamrocks ran out comfortable winners in the end. The management were reasonably pleased afterwards.

Training continues ONCE a week in the NMCI Ringaskiddy, Mondays at 7pm. Some players have yet to appear.
