12 hardy souls undertook and completed the Foundation Level Hurling & Football Course in the Clubgrounds last Saturday.
John Jordan celebrated his first official day of retirement……by opening the gates at 8.30am! An early start of a Saturday morning saw the original numbers who committed to doing the course whittled down to the aforementioned 12 participants.
They drove on. The essential core modules of the course were thrashed out inside with no little debate and discussion in the Grace McCarthy Room before sampling the delights of Geraldines scones and tea for mid morning breakfast, and hot soup and rolls at lunchtime.
Then it was onto the practical side of things. With the weather just about holding up, each group of coaches had a chance to put the other coaches, who acted as players, through their paces in areas like FMS (Fundamental Movement Skills), Skills Development and Fun/Modified/Full games.
At the end of the day, it was obvious that each of the 12 got maximum value from the course and we wish them well in their budding coaching careers, whether it be with the underage boys or the girls. From a boys point of view, each team in 2013 will have at least 1 coach who is at least trained up to Foundation Level, a first for the club.
Our thanks go to the Coach Education Tutors, Shamrocks man himself Patrick Andrews and Gerry Dineen (Dripsey). They were very impressed with the level of competence and enthusiasm shown by the group. Also thanks to the aforementioned Geraldine for the grub and to the “retired” John Jordan who was on hand all day long to lend any assistance required. Hopefully, there will follow a Level 1 down the line.
