Tracton 1-12, Shamrocks 0-9
Tracton juniors once again got the upper hand on Shamrocks in championship action, this time in the Semi Final of the football championship. This game was played in Brinny (after someone finally came to a decision about the venue) and considering the recent rain that fell, the Valleys pitch was in reasonable nick, if a little heavy.
Tracton led early on courtesy of that goal and just about held off Shamrocks throughout the hour. Both teams found scoring hard to come by in the 1st period with Tracton just about shading it 1-4 to 0-6, after Shamrocks had finished the stronger through points from Alan McCarthy, Simon McGarry and Joe Shanahan. All to play for at halftime as the fairly strong wind blew SW straight across the pitch with two committed teams going at it.
The throw in resulted in the changing of the match. Shamrocks attacked and Joseph Shanahan, at centre forward rattled the crossbar. The ball was cleared and Tracton scored a vital point at the other end straight away. They followed this up with a further 3 points within 5 minutes and allied to their new found total ariel dominance around the middle third, took over. It basically was game over and despite Shamrocks 2 point burst with 8 minutes left, which left the scores 1-10 to 0-9, Tracton closed out proceedings with 2 points of their own after Shamrocks had committed men forward in the persuit of the all illusive goal that they needed, but they didnt come close once.
