Mary Glossop (nee Hickey) RIP

On Saturday last the death of Mary Glossop (nee Hickey) was announced. The news of her death has shocked and sadened all of us who knew and grew up with this wonderful charismatic lady from old Ringaskiddy. Mary was a very outgoing and pleasant lady always wearing a smile.

Forty one years ago she married one of the finest hurlers Carrigaline ever produced the one and only Will Glossop. Mary along with her late mother the legendary Norrie Hickey were stars of many a Donal O’Connor produced play in Ringaskiddy’s Community Centre. Those were the days when The Shamrock Drama Group were among the best in the Country.

Her funeral Mass in St. Brigids Church Crosshaven was celebrated by her cousin Rev. Fr. Aidan Dunne. (Fr. Aidan’s father the late Dave Dunne played with Carrigdhoun in the Senior Hurling County Final of 1945 against the Glen). A packed Church reflected the wide regard and huge respect that there was for Mary. There was many a tear shed throughout a service that was both moving and most reverend. To her husband Will, daughter Michelle, son Adrian, her sister Aine, grandchildren and wide circle of relatives and friends, we extend our deepest sympathy.
