Tracton 2-19, Shamrocks 0-16
On a splendid sod on Tracton’s new sand based pitch scores were aplenty. Shamrocks had some absentees and it was an opportunity to provide important playing time for players who needed same.
Shamrocks were under pressure early on and Tracton duly punished their shortcomings with a string of points. A few positional moves by the Shamrock mentors brought some equilibrium into the game with Cathal Kidney now at centre back contesting and defending manfully. As always Fullback Stephen O’Reilly was well up for the challange and behind him ‘keeper Michael O’Neill showed much class and bravery and hit some great free pucks to accumulate valuable points.
Unfortunately a few players were well below their normal form which resulted in our opponents making easy capital Joe Shanahan had another fine outing and as always Fergus O’Neill and Brian Cusack battled bravely throughout. Full marks too to a ‘never say die’ Stephen Keane playing at centre forward. Sixteen points was one of our best scores for the season but unfortunately too many easy scores were leaked to the opposition through the concession of needless free pucks.
