Camp Ciarán – Lá 1 (2/7/12)

Camp Ciaran, The Shamrock Club’s official Under Age Summer Hurling Camp got under way this morning Monday July 2nd at Pairc Tadgh O’Ainlaoi, Shanbally at 10am.

78 children from the National Schools have registered and after signing in and ‘fitting out’ the Camp was officially launched and opened by Cork’s Senior Hurling Captain Donal Og Cusack. Speaking to the group and many of their parents, Donal said how pleased he was to see so many young boys and girls fitted out with polo shirts, helmets and hurleys and rairing to go. In wishing them well he told them that hurling was one of Ireland’s oldest sports and had few equals for skills and entertainment worldwide. He acknowledged the initiative taken by the Shamrock Club and acknowledged the work being put in by the Coaches.

The Coaching group was led by David Nolan Principal at Shanbally N.S. along with John O’Herlihy Principal at Ringaskiddy N.S. and Michael Prout N.T., Alan McCarthy, Conor Walters, Michael O’Neill, Jonathan Tuohy and Gemma Kavanagh.

Each participant in the Camp received an authographed photograph of Donal Og to mark the occasion.

So well done to all concerned, with a great day being had by all. The camp concludes this Friday.
