U13 FC V Crosshaven – 23/4

Crosshaven 10-11, Shamrocks 5-8

Crosshaven went into the quarter final of the Grade C Football championship (doubled up as league game as well) after this comprehensive defeat of a gallant Shamrocks side at a cold Camden on Monday night last. Shamrocks were expecting to be much closer in this game but Crosshaven produced a performance from nowhere to overwhelm the visitors in the second half.

Shamrocks played with the wind and the hill in the first half (the wind more across than out to sea really) and David O’Sullivan scored a point from the throw in. Crosshaven went up the pitch and scored a goal to move ahead. The scores came thick and fast after this with both sets of forwards on top. Shamrocks had goals from Shane Flavin, Davis Fox and Joseph O’Keeffe (who played a great game throughout) with some nice points from O’Keeffe himself, O’Sullivan, Flavin, Shane Downey and Seán Andrews who was lively. HT Shamrocks led 4-7 to 4-1 and it was all to play for considering the hill and wind advantage.

Crosshaven got the start they needed with a couple of quick fire goals, all down the centre of teh pitch. They moved 8 points ahead within 10 minutes of the restart and Shamrocks found it difficult to even get out of their own half. Crosshaven were piling on the goals now as the Shamrocks full back line was under tremendous pressure. The last few minutes saw a goal from David O’Sullivan. The lads tried hard as per usual throughout and cannot be faulted for effort. It was good to see an almost full turnout for the first time this year

There will be training this Thursday at 5.30pm and the next game is home to Carrig na bhFear next Monday at 7pm.
