U15 FL V Lisgoold – 11/3

Shamrocks 2-5, Lisgoold 0-5

This U15 side began their campaign with a good victory on Sunday over Lisgoold in what was a low scoring game where both defences were on top.

Shamrocks began the match rather slowly and found themselves four points behind with the first quarter over.  While having had a few opportunities in front of goal the opportunities were spurned.

However persistence does pay off and two well taken goals by Cillian Murphy and Cormac Scriven left the scpre 2-3 to 0-5 at the short whistle.

The second half was very keenly contested by both teams with Shamrocks giving an exhibition of tight marking.  Great credit to half back line of Shane Kelleher, David Barry, and Nathan Hayes who defended heroically.  They were ably assisted by Darragh Scriven and Koby O’Grady midfield.  However with the retirement of Mark Hitchmough at centre forward Shamrocks lacked a physical presence though great credit to subs Joseph O’Keeffe, Daniel Carroll and Christopher Hayes who battled hard.  One notable forward who did manage to swing a few crucial points in the second half was David Andrews at right half forward.

All in all a good victory and the boys are looking forward to their next match away to Grenagh on March 19th. Training this Friday March 16th at 5pm.
