It is with much regret that we have learned of the death of Gerald Fitzgerald R.I.P, a senior Club Vice-President.
He died on Christmas Eve afternoon at his home in Shanbally. His burial took place after 11am Mass at Shanbally on Wednesday morning, December 28th.
Born and raised in Shanbally, he had very close links with the Club all his life. Gerald was a member of the Under 16 Hurling team of 1948 which won the inaugural u16 hurling championship in the division. Shamrocks defeated St. Patricks of Upton in the final. Also on that team were Michael Brennan (Club President), Donal Brady (Club Vice-President) and Ger Coveney (Club Vice-President). Other members, who have gone to their reward were Ted Hanley, Ray Sisk, Danno Pierce, Jim Tett (goalkeeper), Ned O’Callaghan and Dan Livesey.
He was always a very committed community man. He was active for a long number of years in the local branch of The Irish National Foresters Association. We will miss this kind and genial gentleman. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a Anam dílis.
