U15 HC V Clondrohid – 9/10

Clondrohid 5-12, Shamrocks 1-3

Shamrocks made the long trip to Clondrohid for the second Sunday in a row and it was a case of deja vu all over again as Clondrohid dished out a heavy defeat to the visitors. Clondrohid had this game wrappd up inside 15 minutes as once again, their speed and pace was too much for the Shamrocks lads. These past 2 games down there have shown the gap that exists between us and some of the other clubs around but at least now, the selectors and mentors know the problems and they will be addressing them as the lads move forward into under 16 next year.

As usual, Shamrocks faced a mountain to climb before the game as they had very little done hurlingwise before the game due to football committments. Also, within that word Clondrohid was in fact three clubs as players from Cill na Martra and Naomh Abán (who dont field hurling teams) were on duty for Clondrohid and indeed were some of their better players. They opened up a 2-5 to 0-0 lead within 15 minutes and despite Shamrocks having a fair amount of possession, they just could not find the posts, a problem that needs to be addressed as well. Ball was lost, ball was mishit and ball was too slow. At halftime it was 4-9 to 0-1, flattering to Clondrohid as the Shamrocks lads had tried very hard without much reward.

The selectors brought on all the subs within 5 minutes of the restart and they made a handsome contribution to the spirit Shamrocks showed in the second half. It was way more competitive and featured fine displays from Cormac Scriven in goal, David Raleigh, Coby O’Grady, sub Nathan Hayes, Rory Horgan who scored a fine goal and Aonghus Boland who put over few scores. Brian Coffan had a great battle with the flying Clondrohid wind forward who was instrumental to most of their scores.

And so the season ends on a disappointing note somewhat. We played 4 games throughout and that will have to addressed for one thing – the players will not progress unless they are exposed to way more hurling. We’d like to thank the players and the parents who made the trip once again and it’s encouraging to see the panel get better, despite the efforts of some other players to drop off it.
