Shamrocks 1-13, Muintir Bháire 0-10
Shamrocks got their second win of the campaign after a hard fought win over our visitors from Durras on Sunday afternoon last. This was a better performance that the previous week against Carrigaline as they played more controlled football throughout, with the players linking up well when they had the ball. Muintir Bháire started very well and looked like they were going to run away with things as they led 0-4 to 0-0 after 12 minutes. However, Shamrocks started to win more ball around the middle and while the ball into the full forward line was slow to arrive at times, they started to pick off the points; beginning with Joe Shanahan after 15 minutes. Simon McGarry, who started at full forward and ended up at centre, played a pile of ball and was always available for the pass. He ended up with 0-6, 3 each from play and frees. Shamrocks led by 0-6 to 0-5 at halftime and just about kept themselves in front in the second half .
Jason Browne got on the end of a move to poke home a Shamrocks goal just before the end after Muintir Bháire had really thrown everything at the Shamrocks backs. So a good start to the league years for the greens with 4 points from 4 in the new Carrigdhoun/Carbery league. Next week is a problem – nobody knows who we are playing and even worse – we dont know whether we are playing football of hurling at this stage. Irrespective, training continues on this Tuesday and Thursday night at 7.30 and 8pm respectively. Team: F. O’Neill, S. Andrews, S. Hurley, J. Tuohy, M. Prout, C. Brady, G. Ronayne, A. McCarthy, B. Mulqueen, J. Shananhan, S. Collins, D. O’Sullivan, S. McGarry, S. Keane. Subs used – C. Ronayne, K. Hegarty, J. Browne.
Again, it was great to see 26 players togged out at the start of March. Hopefully all them players will be accomodated in a Shamrocks jersey before the summer is out.
