U16 FL Final V St Vincents – 27/10

St Vincents 7-7, Shamrocks 3-5

A similar result to the championship final in September resulted in a double for St Vincents in their own grounds on a beautiful Sunday morning. The goals were the winning and the losing of the game and St Vincents were ruthless with them – their ability to score in burst just knocked back the valiant efforts of the Shamrocks players.

St Vincents punished any sloppy Shamrocks play, in particular in the first half, with goals. They scored 4 in the first half and the Shamrocks boys just couldnt cope with this. At halftime, Vincents led 4-5 to 1-2. The Shamrocks lads could have folded the tent at this point but to be fair to our boys, they went out in the second half and dsiplayed a great attitude in the face of an onslought, matching the excellent Vincents throughout apart from the concession of further goals which does seem to be a problem. Shamrocks did score 2 smashing goals in the second half and had the gap down to 7 points but just as they sniffed a comeback was on, it was dismissed immediately with Vincents 6th goal – game well and truly over. In the end, St Vincents received the League Trophy from the Mid/South Board to claim a clean sweep over this Shamrocks team since they were u12.

Thanks to the players and their parents for a reasonably successful season (the 2 finals apart) with all the players finishing out the year with many fine performances among them – some players have really taken a huge step forward this year. Its imperative that all players are refreshed and ready for action in a Shamrocks jersey in 2020
