Grenagh 5-4, Shamrocks 2-10
An excellent football display by Shamrocks did not get its due reward following this one goal defeat away to Grenagh. A slow start where Shamrocks were 3-1 to 0-0 behind after 6 minutes, cost them in the end. A huge improvement up to half time meant that Shamrocks were within one goal at the break, 3-1 to 1-4.
Had Shamrocks taken a fraction of their chances in the first half, a commanding lead could have been established. Nevertheless, the lads were confident at the break that they would improve in the second half.
This came to pass – they were one goal in front midway through the 2nd half. They were playing brilliantly across every line and looked like easing to a comfortable victory. Unfortunately, they sat back and let Grenagh back into the game and they took full advantage. Despite a big finish, Shamrocks could not get the vital scores to tie or even win the game.
The lads were devastated at the end and understandably so. However, they should all be proud of their performances and I’m sure that we will all learn from mistakes made to make them more clinical in the future. Again Shamrocks had a large travelling support and they roared the lads on from start to finish – thank you!
