U14 CHC V Donoughmore – 20/8

Donoughmore 5-12, Shamrocks 3-5

Its been a bad week for our championship teams at all levels and the latest team to exit the championship were the U14 hurlers at home to Donoughmore on Thursday evening in Shanbally.

Donoughmore scored an early goal but Shamrocks replied with a cracking shot from Harry Andrews. The teams traded points throughout the first half, the Shamrocks scores coming from Seán Browne, Seán Andrews and Robert Van Pelt. They also traded goals – when one team scored a goal, the other team went down the field and replied (Luke O’Driscoll and Harry Andrews again for Shamrocks). They teams were fairly evenly matched in that half but the one difference was that Donoughmore had a greater spread of scorers and their full forward line was threathening and more dangerous. A sign of things to come possibly?

Indeed. Donoughmore, with a rejigged team, completely dominated the second half. Their forwards just added on the scores and the young Shamrocks team were unable to replicate their first half display and reply to those scores. They kept trying until the end but all they had to show for the second half was one point. So their championship season is over. Thanks to Tim, Jed and the players for their efforts this year so far.

The Shamrock lads still have 3 hurling and 1 football league game to play and are also (still) awaiting their opponents in the County C Football grade.
