U12 HL V Crosshaven – 25/4

Crosshaven 3-1, Shamrocks 2-1

A wet afternoon in Shanbally and Shamrocks didn’t play well enough to stop Crosshaven getting the 2 league points. The players tried very hard and cant be faulted for their efforts but there is a realisation on managements part that as far as hurling goes, there is a lot of work ahead. It is IMPERATIVE that the players practice at home and get as much encouragement as possible from parents.

Crosshaven were the better team here and enjoyed way more possession throughout and indeed could have won by more. Shamrocks dangerous full forward Eoin O’Flynn was starved of possession and Shamrocks just couldn’t get the ball up to him enough for him to score. Crosshaven scored 2 of the sloppiest goals you will ever see in hurling in the first half when the ball could have been cleared from the defence on multiple occasions but ended up being poked over the goal line instead. Eoin O’Flynn scored a cracking Shamrocks goal and Fionn Herlihy put over a free for Shamrocks in that half. Crosshaven led by 2-1 to 1-1 at HT.

Shamrocks rejigged their team at HT and scored a soft goal themselves through Eoin O’Flynn straight after HT. The next 15 minutes were scoreless and the next score was always going to be vital. Alas, from a Shamrocks point of view, it went to the visitors as a mishit 65 went all the way through to the Shamrocks net.

Shamrocks just didn’t have enough to mount a serious attack to trouble the Crosshaven goal thereafter for the equaliser. Practise at home is the key for this group. They switch over to football now for the next 2 weeks.
