MBHL V St Vincents – 1/4

Shamrocks 3-17, St Vincents 2-3

Shamrocks played St Vincents at home on Wednesday evening in our first outing in “B” grade.

From the throw in we could see that Vincent’s had some very skillful players but it was Shamrocks who, playing with the wind, opened the scoring and took a two point lead. Vincents scored a goal from long range free not soon after. David Andrews got a lovely point to level the game and a cracking goal from Brendan Crowley plus points from David Andrews, Andrew O’Grady and Darragh Scriven gave us a lead of 1-07 to 1-00. The Shamrocks backline and halfback line fought hard for every ball and though St Vincents did manage to score one more point it was Shamrocks who got the next three scores to go in at halftime ahead on a scoreline of 1-10 to 1-1.

The lads knew the second half would be hard as we were now playing into the strong wind but Shamrocks increased their lead with three more points from play only for St Vincents to score 1-1 to make it 1-13 to 2-02; another point for Shamrocks and two quick goals all but sealed the victory for us but Vincents never gave up and they did manage one more point from play; Shamrocks tagged on another three points to run out victors on a final score line of 3-17 to 2-03.
