U16 FL V Grenagh – 4/9

Shamrocks 5-6, Grenagh 1-9

Shamrocks played Grenagh yesterday evening in ideal conditions for football. After a long summer of mainly hurling the lads got back on the football pitch to try and qualify for the latter stages of the U16 league.

They started brightly and were 0-3 to no score up after 10 minutes. Grenagh then took over and outscored us by 1-05. Shamrocks played some nice football up to the last third of the pitch but the wrong options were taken sometimes in front of goal and some silly mistakes were being made all over the pitch. They regrouped at half time and some words of encouragement were given to the team. The selectors pointed out their errors and the silly mistakes that happened in the first half.

The Shamrocks lads started the second half with a totally different attitude and it was soon evident that the words that was spoken at half time was paying dividends. They blitzed Grenagh in the first 15 minutes of the second half and scored a total of 5-03 without reply. The goals came from 2 a piece for Darragh Scriven and Christopher Hayes and a wonder solo goal from Coby O Grady. We played out the final few minutes of the game by containing the Grenagh attack. It’s Carrig Na bhFear next on our agenda next Monday night away.

Team. Cormac Scriven, Sean Kidney, Shane Kelleher, Nathan Hayes, Coby O Grady, David Barry, Darragh Scriven, Andrew O Grady, Mark Hitchmough, Brendan Crowley, David Andrews, Christopher Hayes & Eric Desmond.
