We were well beaten by Cill Na Martra tonight in the minor football championship in Ballinora.
From the first whistle we found ourselves to be under immense pressure. This Cill Na Mathra team were superior to us in every department on the pitch. They were physically stronger and the age difference was evident from the start.
This game was over as a contest well before half time. We started with the majority of the team that played so well in the last round against Whitescross. No one can be faulted for their effort, time and commitment they showed throughout the season. Only two of the panel of nineteen players we had on duty tonight are overage for next season.
Team manager Mr. Kieran Lynam and his assistant Kevin O Mahony thanked the players for the honesty and commitment that they gave to Shamrocks throughout the season. He reminded them that the majority of them will be playing minor again for the next two years.
This now leaves this group to concentrate on their own age group, ie U16 hurling & football where they have a busy schedule for the next few weeks. The minor footballers have one league match to play and are also invited to play in the Ballypheane Festival in mid September.
