Fermoy 4-3, Shamrocks 2-3
We played Fermoy in the semi-final.
We put together a strong team with a good mix of experienced and younger players.
We started well and were unlucky not to have at least one goal and one point scored early on.
As the half progressed, Fermoy came more into the game and they hit us for three goals and two points in 6 or 7 minutes before half time. Unfortunately, we failed to register a score in the first half.
The lads were disappointed at the break as they felt that the start they had should have kept them in touch.
We started the second half well and had a point immediately.
We then hit a purple spell where we scored two goals and two points to bring us back to within two points of the lead.
We were playing great stuff with all the lads making a significant contribution.
Fermoy broke and scored a point from a free to extend their lead to a goal.
We had a number of opportunities after that, including a ball off the line following a scramble.
Fermoy, to their credit, kept plugging away and in the last attack of the game, scored another goal.
Final score – Fermoy 4-3 – Shamrocks 2-3.
Selectors – Dick Andrews, Shane O’Donovan and Seamus O’Flynn wrere delighted with the second half display.
The younger lads stepped up to the plate and we should be stronger in this tournament over the next 2/3 years.
Medals were presented afterwards by John Kerins’ widow and Tony Davis.
