JBF V Carrigaline – 17/4
Carrigaline 3-8, Shamriocks 1-5
Shamrocks were beaten by Carrigaline in a game played under lights in Carrigaline on Tuesday night.
The game was played in weather that wouldn’t have seemed out of place on a late November night, howling wind, driving rain and icy cold conditions throughout. Shamrocks playing against the elements started the game on top and except for some wayward shooting, should have been a few points to the fore. Carrigaline came more into the game late in the half but thanks to some stout defending from all the Shamrocks backs they were limited to 6 points in the half and led at the interval 0-06 to 0-00.
After making a few changes at half time Shamrocks started the second half well on top. Darragh Collins slotted over a point which was followed up by a Barry Mulqueen score. Then a long ball was delivered into the full forward line where Joey Brady managed to get a hand on the ball and directed it into the back of the net. Michael O’Neill tagged on another point and the game was level.
Shamrocks then suffered the agony of leaving Carrigaline back into the game via a soft goal. This seemed to knock the wind out of the Shamrocks sails who conceded another goal and a point soon after. Shamrocks still fought bravely and got 2 more points on the board from Stephen O’Neill and Darragh Collins. Carrigaline finished the game stronger and scored a goal and a point late on to win the game on a score line of 3-08 to 1-05.
Special mentions must go to the 2 elder players on the team Kevin O’Mahony and Darragh Collins who rolled back the years and were outstanding throughout. Kevin was immense in the full back line and Darragh showed for every ball delivered his way and was rewarded with two great scores.
A plus point for the night was the turnout, Shamrocks had 21 players togged out and the full allocation of subs was used.
