Ó Murchús 2-20, Clonakilty 1-10
Ó Murchús captured the League title on Wednesday evening by beating Clonakilty in Ballinspittle by double scores. For this particular game, they had 2 important players back who missed the league encounter in May where Clonakilty won – David Herlihy in goal and Ruairc Sisk at midfield and they certainly made a difference.
They had a commanding lead at halftime after points from frees and play from Cian Lynch, Ruairc Sisk, Oisín Buckley and Barry O’Mahony who was on the long range frees. Cian Lynch also added a goal from play and Ó Murchús led by 1-13 to 0-6 at halftime, a healthy lead.
Josh Bartett and Ruairc Sisk added to the tally early on in the second half and stretched their lead further. Kieran May was doing a good marking job on the Clonakilty dangerman who was a serious hurler. Ó Murchús added to their goal tally when Cian Lynch once again grabbed a long Barry O’Mahony delivery, rounded his man and buried it to the back of the net and that was it.
Sam Foy at corner forward, while he didnt score, won a lot of ball and laid it off for vital scores. Cathal O’Donovan was very steady at corner back and Ruairc Sisk at midfield was everywhere as was Oisín Buckley on the wing. Overall a good nights work and well done to all the players and coaches.
The captain Kieran May accepted the cup on behalf of the team.
