Shamrocks 5-9, Courcey Rovers 5-2
Shamrocks u12 footballers travelled to Ballinspittle on the 1st of July to play Courcey Rovers in their last football league game. It was a beautiful evening for football although Shamrocks were missing a few regulars due to holiday commitments. Shamrocks began very positively and within ten minutes were 2-5 to no score ahead thanks to goals from Liam Dorney and Luke Jordan and fabulous points from Luke Jordan (0-2,0-1 free), David Herlihy (0-2), Cian Lynch (0-1, free) and Dónal Herlihy. Couceys found the quick movements of the shamrocks players hard to live with and only managed one goal and a point by half-time. Shamrocks continued their dominance with a fine individual goal from David Herlihy and another by Jack O’ Sullivan-Kearney to leave the half-time score of Shamrocks 4-06 to Courcey Rovers 1-01.
At the beginning of the second half the referee decided to widen the pitch, for whatever reason, and this seemed to suit a rejuvenated home side. They ran continuously at the Shamrock’s backs and managed three good goals despite the best efforts of goalie, Dónal Herlihy. The half backline of Shane O’ Flynn, Cian Lynch and Harry O’ Leary were excellent and helped enormously in curtailing Courceys. Evan Browne managed to get a fine goal which helped to keep the score board ticking over despite the intense pressure from the home side. Luke Jordan scored a vital free late in the game which ensured a famous win. Final score, Shamrocks 5-09 Courcey Rovers 5-02
