Kilshannig 4-19, Shamrocks 0-4
Shamrocks were no match for a physically stronger and more skillful Kilshannig team in the County B Championship on Thursday evening in Mayfield. Its always hard to know what to expect when you enter the county arena and Shamrocks found out the hard way that they are well off the pace required this year. Kilshannig won last years Minor A Football County and this strong team backboned this team. They attacked from the off and didnt stop attcking until the final whistle, never giving Shamrocks any chance to get into the game, dominating everywhere particularly in the ariel exchanges.
Kilshannig played with the very strong wind in the first half and were unstoppable. As soon as they kicked their 3rd goal just before HT, the game as a contest was over as the score read 3-9 to 0-1 at halftime. Any thoughts of a Shamrocks comeback with the wind were dismissed straight after the break as Kilshannig scored 3 fast points and went on shoot at will thereafter. Shamrocks came more into the game topwards the end fighting for a bit of pride and scored a couple of points but it was far too late.
Despite the scoreline and the disapponting display, its been a good year for this team with all players who started underage again next year. The Carrigdhoun title was captured after a mammoth campaign and this will stand to them going forward – Thursday night just wasnt their night. Im sure they’ll be back for more once the U21 season starts. Well done and thanks to all the players and the youthful management of Chris O’Neill and Stephen Hurley for a great run.
