Tracton 1-17, Shamrocks 1-9
Tracton were merited victors in this league encounter played at Shanbally on Sunday morning. Shamrocks’ restricted panel makes it difficult to get positive results, despite the best efforts of the lads on duty. Again we are most grateful to the members of the minor panel who fall in to make up the numbers and who contribute magnificently.
Shamrocks started well with three excellent points but Tractons physical strength and more experienced hurlers enabled them to quickly assert themselves. Some of their hurling was of the best quality. Despite this, the Shamrock mentors can be pleased with some great efforts from many of our players. Lady luck deserted us on a number of occasions and we should have at least another 1-6 on the score sheet. Some manful runs by minor player David Andrews deserved more fruit.
Again we saw Cathal Kidney but in a sterling display at full back, and Jason Browne maintained his recent good form. Aonghus Boland was among the best at centre field and Barry Mulqueen struck some great balls too. Youngster Andrew O’Grady hit some great scores in both halves. Full credit to all the lads on duty, and they couldn’t be faulted for genuine effort.
