U16 HC V Brian Dillons – 14/7

Shamrocks 3-13, Brian Dillons 0-4

A totally dominant second half display enabled Shamrocks to move into the Semi Final of the East Board Grade C hurling championship.

Brian Dillons were very competitive in the first half in particular. They played with the significant breeze which as usual for these part, blew right down the pitch towards the big turbine. They really put it up to Shamrocks but the home side battled hard to lead 1-6 to 0-3 at halftime with the wind to come on their backs. Cillian Hayes at half forward scored the gaol midway through the first half and some nice points from Chris Hayes bursting through the middle for a brace, Matt Field, the hard working Killian Murphy at full forward and 2 beauties from James Lynam and Andrew O’Grady at midfield gave Shamrocks a comfortable position at HT.

The expected second half dominance did materialise, however Brian Dillons fought to the bitter end and made it competitive up until 10 minutes into the second half by whcih time Shamrocks had moved into a 2-8 to 0-4 lead, Murphy with the second gaol. With David Barry doing a good job on Dillons best player, Shamrocks were able to stretch out and further points from Hayes, O’Grady and Lynam and a goal from Hayes enabled them to cruise home by a deserved 18 points.

Shamrocks now move on to play Dripsey on August 4th in Ballygarvan in the semi finals.
