U9 Hurling Blitz – 20/10

Shamrocks under 9 hurlers travelled to Mayfield to play in the  Monster Hurling Blitz on Saturday morning and it proved a great success.

Saturday morning is quite a popular morning for the youth of our parish with many sports competiting for the minds of the kids; on this occasion Shamrocks were missing up to 8 players, mostly to other sports but neverthless, the fact that 11 were present and correct in Mayfield at 9.40am for an 11 a side blitz meant that each and every one of the players played the full allocation of games.

Each team played a total of 3 games and Shamrocks played against Castlelyons, Blarney and the host club Mayfield in their group. The lads played just short of one and a half hours of hurling against different teams and the mentors on the day Jed O’Flaherty, Patrick Andrews, Seamus O’Flynn and Tim Hayes were delighted with the event. The players certainly enjoyed themselves on a morning when scores were not important. Passage GAA will be hosting anothe Monster Hurling Blitz within the next month so we’ll be entering that. Our thanks to Mayfield GAA and John Neville (Urban Development Officer) for the chance to compete and my thanks to Frank Van Pelf who was on hand with his camera and will be sending on photos for this website asap.

The Shamrocks players who took part on Saturday morning were Sean and Harry Andrews, Cian O’Flaherty, Eoin O’Flynn, Ferdia Hayes, Adam Maye, Shane Donegana, Robert Van Pelt, Colin Murphy, Declan Carroll and Mark Sisk.
