Shamrocks Underage ran a Gaelic Football Blitz for the 3 schools in the parish on a glorious Wednesday afternoon last. 2nd and 3rd class from Scoil Barra Naofa Monkstown, Shanbally NS and Ringaskiddy Lower Harbour NS (plus 1st class) took part and all boys and girls got plenty of game time on the top and bottom pitches. In total there were over 140 kids present which was great to see.
The club would like to thank Martin Coleman GDA who was present for the Blitz and took control of affairs from the off. The clubs Schools Liaison Officer Patrick Andrews, who organised the day, was also on duty. John Jordan as ever was around and we’d also like to thank underage chairman John Twomey (Ringaskiddy) and Liam Shanahan who were also present. John Twomey (Shanbally) did a great job in the kitchen with tea, sandwiches and biscuits for the teachers etc.
The club would like to thanks the 3 school principals, Mr Sean McCarthy (Monkstown), Mr David Nolan (Shanbally) and Mr John Herlihy (Ringaskiddy) for their cooperation as well as the teachers of the 7 classes who took part. Also well done to the 6th class pupils from the schools who refereed the games and did a great job. Thanks to all the parents who came up and supported the event.
The club hope to follow up with maybe a hurling version in a few weeks time; however, this will be harder to organise due to the sourcing of helmets and hurelys etc but more news will follow on that.
