U15 Football V Grenagh – 17/3

Grenagh 2-11, Shamrocks 4-7

We had an early start to St. Patrick’s day with an away match against Grenagh. It was an ideal morning for football. We fielded a very young team as some of our senior players were missing through injury. We started brightly and found ourselves leading through an Andrew O’Grady goal and two points from the excellent Aonghus Boland. Grenagh replied with a goal of their own and then scored three unanswered points. We got another point from the ever busy Patrick Murphy to leave us all level again as half time approached. Grenagh got three points from play in first half injury time to leave us trailing 1-07 to 1-03 at the break.

Great words of encouragement were spoken at half time and the lads responded in style. Now playing with the wind we clawed our way back into the game. A David Andrews goal was followed by two points from Alex O’Sullivan. Grenagh then hit a purple patch and went 2-11 to 2-05 ahead with seven minutes to play. Some positional switches were made and resulted in us scoring 1-03 from Alex O’Sullivan (Goal) and two points from Aonghus Boland and Darragh Scriven. Deep in to injury time, David Raleigh in goal made a great save and quickly launched a counter attack which resulted in Alex O’Sullivan scoring the winning goal that left us winners by two points. Great credit is due to this young team and their never say die attitude was rewarded in the end. Team. David Raleigh, Coby O’Grady, Sean Kidney, Shane Kelleher, Joe O’Brien, Tom Murphy, Alex O’Sullivan, Darragh Scriven, Aonghus Boland, Patrick Murphy, Cormac Scriven, David Andrews, Andrew O’Grady, Brendan Crowley
