Carrigaline 1-5, Shamrocks 1-6
Shamrocks opened their Carrigdhoun/Carbery League account with a last minute win over Carrigaline in Carrigaline on Sunday afternoon last. Shamrocks timed their run to perfection as they only led for the first time with 1 minute to go after Joseph Shanahan finished off a flowing Shamrocks move to the back of the Carrigaline net. Carrigaline could rightly claim that they deserved something out of this game as they did have plenty of scoring opportunities and possession but Shamrocks nabbed them on the line. Carrigaline led 1-3 to 0-1 early on, scoring a quick goal and a couple of points. Joe Shanahan with 2 and a cracker from Cannice Cafferey left Shamrocks 1-4 to 0-3 down at halftime. Conditions were heavy and scoring was always going to be a problem and so it proved.
However, the introduction of 3 Shamrocks players at halftime seemed to give Shamrocks added imputus and they gradually got on top of Carrigaline in the second half. More ball seemed to work its way inside and the forwards were unlucky at times that the ball didnt end up in the Carrig net. But it eventually did and Shamrocks took the 2 league points. While it was a bonus to take the win, everyone knows that there is an amount of work to put in which im sure the players and managament will respond to. Next game next Sunday at home to Clan na nGael (Drimoleague) at 3pm. It was great to see 25 players togged out today as well.
