JAHL V Kinsale – 29/5

Kinsale 1-23, Shamrocks 2-19

This high scoring encounter played in ideal summer conditions in Kinsale saw the home side steal a one point win in injury time. Though Shamrocks were understrength, the lads on duty gave of their all and recorded some excellent scores in both halves. Kinsale led 1-13 to 0-10 at the break. Shamrock’s second half performance was very encouraging and when Colin Brady gets a full squad together, they will do some serious business.

John Kerins Qualifying (U11 F) – 25/5

Camden pitch was the venue for this year’s John Kerins Memorial Cup qualifiers. Four U11 teams battled it out for two qualifying spots in the semi finals to be held on the 16th June. First round games pitched Shamrocks against Passage and Ballygarvan against Crosshaven.

Crosshaven won convincingly against Ballygarvan and Shamrocks had a great game against Passage, coming out 4-4 to 1-2 victors. Our next match was against Ballygarvan which had Ballygarvan leading by one point at half time. Shamrocks dug deep and produced a great 2nd half which was rewarded with a winning tally of 4-5 to1-5.

Having now qualified Shamrocks took on a very strong Crosshaven side. Tagged as favourites they were a little too strong for our lads and won 3-5 to 0-5. Three great performances by the Shamrocks side ensured our place in the semi finals, so well done to all the lads and thanks to the parents and grandparents for their support.

U12 HL V Passage – 25/6

Passage 6-8, Shamrocks 2-6

Shamrocks and Passage played in the sunshine in Passage on Friday night and Passage were well worth the victory. They were much the better team in the first half and led 5-5 to 0-2 and never really gave Shamrocks a chance to get into the game. The sleectors asked for a more committed second half performance and that’s what they got; despite not being within a chance of winning the game, the lads were much better in the second half and pleased the Shamrocks selectors with their attitude. The lads never gave up and showed what a bit of heart in a team can do. Well done also to John Herlihy who refereed the game.

U14 HL V Whitescross – 23/5

Whitescross 3-11, Shamrocks 2-5

Despite the scoreline, Shamrocks gave a fine display of hurling in this game. We started poorly and conceded a number of soft scores which was ultimately our undoing.

We trailed by 11 point at half-time.

We started the second half well and with around 10 minutes to go, were only 5 points down and playing very well. Unfortunately lady luck deserted us and we couldn’t buy a score from then on.
It wasn’t for the want of trying which was very encouraging. A late goal and a point for our opponents gave a flattering look to the scoreboard. Hopefully, this will kick-start our season.

Thank you to all who travelled and supported.

U12 HL V Mayfield – 21/5

Mayfield 8-5, Shamrocks 1-1

We traveled to play Mayfield in the U12 hurling league on Monday night last.  The pitch was very heavy due to the down pours we had on Monday. We struggled  in every area to contain this excellent Mayfield side. After a poor start we settled down a bit and came more into the game in the second period but found scores hard to come by. Mayfield were very strong right down the centre and were able to take scores from mid field up. Our young team deserve great credit for the way they kept going and were rewarded with some fine scores for their efforts. The game was over as a contest just after half time but we kept going right to the final whistle.

Team, Sam Foy, Nigel O Sullivan Kearney, Calum Gregson, Kieran May, Barry O Mahony, Shane O Mahony, Cathal O Donovan, Luke Jordan, David Herlihy,  Cian Lynch, Harry O Leary. Evan Browne, Josh Bartett, Shane O Flynn, Zach Johnson & Donal Herlihy.

U14 FL V Clondrohid – 17/5

Shamrocks 5-11, Clondrohid 1-5

Shamrocks travelled to Clondrohid last Thursday evening for their third league fixture of the year. We had a near full squad and most importantly had all our on the age players. We gave our best display of the year.

Our hosts were a typically strong, physical team sprinkled with good footballers. However our lads knuckled down early on and never loosened their grip over the hour. We played some marvelous football and took excellent scores.

Thanks to Mark Hitchmough and David Barry for their invaluable help on the night. Thank you to the parents and families for making the long but worthwhile trip. We’re back to Hurling for the next few weeks.

U10 FL V Whitescross – 16/5

19 players showed up in beautiful sunshine for our home game against Whitescross on Wednesday evening. It was great to see some new players joining the squad for what was a great night for football. Whitescross were a skilled and determined side but shamrocks proved too strong and came away with yet another fine victory. Great teamwork and a determination to fight for the ball throughout the whole game proved to be the key to their success. Well done to a great bunch of lads
