John Kerins Memorial – 17/6

Mayfield 5-4, Shamrocks 0-3

We qualified for the semi final and final of this annual competition in Pairc Ui Rinn by coming through a tough group in Passage. We were teamed with Crosshaven, Ballygarvan and hosts Passage. We lost our first game to a very strong Crosshaven outfit. We regrouped to beat Ballygarvan by scoring 2-02 in the last five minutes after all seamed to be lost. That gave us plenty to play for in our last game against Passage. Again our never say die attitude saw us progress to Pairc Ui Rinn after we snatched a draw by scoring three unanswered points in injury time. When the final table was calculated out it showed that Crosshave had won the group and Shamrocks finished second ahead of Ballygarvan. We were drawn against Mayfield in the first semi final and this proved to be a hurdle to far for our young gallant team. In fact Mayfield went on to win out the tournament by beating Crosshaven in the final.

Great credit must go to the team, mentors and parents who again turned out in great numbers to support the lads. The backroom team of Shane O Donovan, Sean Kidney, Mark Hitchmough and Andrew O’Grady can be proud of their achievements. Panel of players.
