James McCarthy RIP

On Monday night the very sad news of the death of James McCarthy, late of Loughbeg, broke.

He passed away after a long illness, bravely borne, in far away Alaska. We all mourn and regret his death at the age of 39 years.
Our hearts and deepest sympathy go out to his parents Dick and Val, sister Triona and brothers Peter and John.

James was a member of an old and hugely respect Ringaskiddy family steeped in rich tradition. His outgoing and extroverted manner endeared him to everybody but the call of the sea in distant Alaska, where he fished in the wild waters of The Berring Straights, was his chosen vocation.
Like his father, he played hurling and Football with Shamrocks. He was always up for the challenge and never found wanting, especially when a big effort was required. He loved the game of hurling and in his spare time and for recreation he always had his hurley and sliotar.

It is sad and lonesome for all of who knew him, that he has dies so far away from his beloved Loughbeg, but we all know very well that his rich spirit will always be near.
In his final journey may his boat sail into a calm harbour where he will be at peace.

Ar dheis De go raibh a Anam dilis.
